This article came up across several local news outlets the second week of March 2017. "Reno mayor defends spending nearly $10,000 on State of City address" (HERE IS THE LINK TO READ THIS FULL STORY OVER AT KRNV).
My thoughts on this topics:
First, I did attend the State of the City address 2017 in person. While I thought the presentation and speech were lackluster, the event itself was very well put together, and overall very nice. There were some tasty cookies, free bottles of water, music, and plenty of seating inside the airplane hanger. My opinion is that everything at this event, aside from the city staff costs and document printing, should have been donated. I agree with how Sparks and Washoe County conducted their State Of the Cities. The food, the venue, the drinks, the live entertainment, and yes, the videos should all have been donated, and cost the city nothing. The only extra cost should have been for security, period.
